Heart Rate For Burning Fat

Using your heart rate to burn fat is a widely-accepted way to lose weight. The optimum pulse needed to burn fat is between 60% and 70% of your maximal heart rate. At this rate you will burn about 12 calories per minute. While some may advocate that all that is necessary is to work at a faster pace to burn more calories, for most people what this will do is lead to burn out. A rate of 80% – 90% of your maximal is not a rate that most people can sustain for very long. Although you will be burning around 16 calories per minute, you won’t be able to maintain that pace consistently over a long period of time. This pace should only be used by well-conditioned athletes who are wise to what they are doing and who are engaged in interval and strength training.

The target heart rate for burning fat

During exercise, energy is required which is achieved by burning fat. If a particular heart rate zone is maintained during exercise then fat burning will be at its best. Staying within this zone will provide optimum fat burning results.

An individual’s maximal pulse is related to a variety of factors made up of age, fitness and gender. So the determination of exact pulses is complex and for this reason they are based on estimates. A general rule of thumb is a maximal heart rate (maximal pulse) of 220 minus age is the widely accepted estimate for both men and women. It is a good place to start for healthy and fit people. For overweight individuals a slower rate is recommended.

Note: Check with your doctor first before starting a new exercise program.

Training at a rate of 55%-85% of your maximal pulse is acceptable for those who are fit. If not then training at a rate of 55%-65% of your maximal is recommended.

The reason this rate matters is that fat burns at a specific rate. This rate is relative to a resting pulse. Being able to understand limits of your heart rate zone will prevent you from overworking and possibly getting too tired too quickly. Exercising within this zone will ensure that your body not only recuperates, but will also gradually build up and get stronger safely. Training out of your comfort zone results in tired and sore muscles and may cause you to lose interest.

Resting pulse and training zone

In order to get a correct reading one must be in a resting position. Find your pulse on either your neck or wrist and count the number of beats in a 15 second time frame. Multiply this number by four to get the total beats per minute.

In order to calculate your training zone you first need to calculate your maximal pulse. This number is derived by subtracting your age from the number 220. This is the maximal heart rate that you should never exceed during exercise. Use this number to calculate the bottom and top limits of your heart rate training zone.

The reason that working within a the zone is so efficient for burning fat is that our body is able to take fat and use it for energy. It is this energy that is needed for continued physical activity. If we can sustain these energy levels, we can burn fat consistently.

Target Heart Rate Zone

If your pulse drops lower than your bottom limit you are wasting time exercising. If it exceeds the top limit, you are overworking. Over time, staying within your zone should become comfortable, maybe even enjoyable especially because you’ll be happy to know that you are burning the fat away.

Adding a good fat burning diet to the exercises will accelerate the fat burn.

Heart Rate Monitor – Six Secrets Promoting Peak Performance

A heart rate monitor is an indispensable performance partner, and aerobic ally. The device puts an end to exercise guessing games, by zoning in on exercise intensity, tracking cardio capacity, and keeping tabs on the general efficiency of your efforts. The data generated by a heart rate monitor acts as a reliable compass to enable you to reach your fitness goals.

Heart Rate Monitor Secret One – Fitness Feedback

Establishing your cardiovascular fitness level, based on factors such as age, weight, activity, and heart rate, is sensible before you start an exercise program. A quality monitor should include this feature. An additional benefit is that it provides you with a fitness baseline, for gauging improvement over time. It will also give you an idea of how fit you are, compared to the other magnificently muscled specimens of your age out there…

Heart Rate Monitor Secret Two – Measuring Motivation

The digits on a heart rate monitor have an astounding ability to activate your motivation button! This is especially true if you train on your own. A well-chosen device will detail exactly what is expected of you, and what you have to do to get there. The data the monitor constantly spews out keeps you on track to reach your exercise goals. A positive progress report from the monitor pushes you to improve your performance during each workout.

Heart Rate Monitor Secret Three – Pinpoints Perfect Pace

Pace depends on a wide variety of physical and external factors, such as your route, the weather, a new routine, or a rocky personal patch. Every fitness buff knows how easily the body can manipulate you into believing that you are really stretching yourself, while your true performance may be discouragingly dismal… With the feedback offered by a monitor, subjective judgements are balanced by objective fact. Time and again, this innocent-looking little device will motivate you to wearily trudge back to your targeted range.

Heart Rate Monitor Secret Four – Exercise Efficiency

If you have just been converted to the fitness fraternity, you may still believe in the old adage of ‘no pain, no gain’. Your aim should rather be a gentler, sustained effort at your targeted heart rate, for a period of about 30 minutes. This is where the value lies. By enabling you to stay on target, at the most beneficial exertion rate, the results of your super-efficient workout efforts will be noticeable within a short period.

Heart Rate Monitor Secret Five – Calorie Crunching Companion

Weight management, or weight loss, often features in fitness planning. A heart rate monitor with the capacity to support you in your efforts, can guide you toward your goal weight, and helps to keep you there. Some ranges, such as Polar, even have dedicated weight management monitors.

Using a heart rate monitor as part of a weight loss program, can include keeping track of calorie intake, as well as monitoring any form of activity during the day. In addition, your target heart rate range can be calculated automatically, to enable you to lose weight, and to use your exercise time as efficiently as possible. Once you reach your goal weight, your monitor can be used to come up with a new, personalized program for weight maintenance.

Heart Rate Monitor Secret Six – Mentor Mentality

The beauty of a heart rate monitor is that it acts as a mentor, with your best interest at heart, so to speak. Once your target heart rate for a productive training session has been established, your practicing partner watches you like a hawk. If you are a bit slack, and don’t maintain the perfect pace to remain on target, your monitor gives you a stern wake-up call!

If you are a procrastinator, make sure you get a monitor that doesn’t give you the opportunity to postpone your workouts. There is magic in a monitor mentor that tells you exactly when to gear up, what to do, and then doesn’t let you off the hook for the duration of the session…

If you have any health concerns, it is a good idea to check in with a health practitioner before you start a training program. To help you to find a balance between injury causing over-training, and ineffective under-training, a heart rate monitor is a good investment.

Heart Rate Monitor Strap Review

A Heart Rate Monitor is best defined as a machine which measures the heart rate in real time situations and may well be considered among the most users friendly of all fitness monitors in the present day scenario!

Constitution

The heart rate monitor with a strap is essentially one of the most accurate and functionally complete machines in present times. The heart rate monitor strap machine is essentially constituted of a strap transmitter which is anchored around the chest and concurrently a watch receiver which is located in the palm of the hand!

The heart rate monitors without a strap are available and may well be considered more users friendly – conversely they are invariably less effective considering that they lack in terms of functionality when compared to their more effective heart rate monitor strap options!

The present day buzzword then is Heart Rate monitors – regardless of whether it is professional athlete training or the daily fitness regime!

Mechanics

The heart rate monitor with strap operates on a typical concept:

oThe electrical voltage of the heart is monitored by ensuring that the electrodes are in contact with the skin

oThe variants could well be considered as being divers and varied – of the likes of monitoring the average heart rate at any point of time, the number of calories burnt during the workout and most importantly the concept and significance of heart zones during an active workout!

oThe heart rate monitor with a strap is one of the most accurate of all heart rate monitors considering that the straps need to be always in contact with the skin and the ECG is recorded during exercising – it is this that helps ensure that the work out is optimal and safe at all times when the heart rate monitor strap is used!

Price Zones

It is indeed predictable that the heart rate monitors with straps come in diverse variants and it is scarcely feasible to pick and use each one of the Heart Rate monitors – nevertheless the need of the hour is to ensure that the most optimal buy is made at any point of time – to illustrate the case in point – the most basic of heart rate monitor strap machines may possess a basic ECG facility while a high end variant could well have a heart zones warning timer which would ensure that there is no overwork by one over the other!

Comfort Equations

The optimal comfort equation is that of ensuring that the features are simple to comprehend and the heart rate monitor simple to use! To illustrate a high end heart rate monitor without an easily legible display unit may well be considered to be inadequate – concurrently a heart rate monitor without an illuminated display unit may well be illegible in minimal or inadequate light!

Conclusively then it is more than evident that the Heart Rate Monitor with strap is the most preferred of options by the first time users and the professionals alike!

Target Heart Rate For Burning Fat

Exercising requires energy and the body gets this energy by burning fat. Health professionals have determined that by exercising within a particular heart rate zone will burn fat faster. Staying in this zone while working out will yield maximum benefit.

Calculate Target Heart Rate

Your heart rate is determined by age, fitness and gender. Tests are available to help calculate these rates, but they can be complex and for this reason these rates are based on estimates.

Target Heart-Rate Formula

A widely used estimate is 220 minus age which is accepted as the maximum pulse or the top of the zone for both men and women. This equation is a good place to start for physically fit individuals. For overweight people or those that have been away from exercise for some time a smaller maximum value is recommended.

Note: Before you start a new exercise program, always check with your heart doctor first. He or she is best equipped to decide about your ability to exercise, how soon, and how much.

Once you have determined your heart rate you can determine what your fat burning zone is. It is suggested that you train at 55% – 85% of your maximum pulse. But for those just starting to exercise it is recommend that you train at the low end which is 55% to 65% of your maximum.

Why does heart rate matter?

Fat burns best at a specific rate which is relative to your resting pulse. When you first start exercising it is suggested that you keep your pulse at the lower end of the scale. As you progress you can increase this rate and your fat burning zone will increase along with it.

Understanding what your ideal heart rate is will prevent you from working out too much and putting unnecessary strain on your body and your heart. Working within this zone will allow your system to recuperate and grow gradually and you will develop a zest for exercise. If you train too hard it becomes too much like work, you walk around feeling sore and tired, and you might lose interest.

Taking your Resting Pulse

Before you can measure your pulse you need to be in a resting position. Take it first thing in the morning after you have been sitting comfortably for a while. Find your pulse on your wrist or neck and count the number of heart beats in a 15 second period. Multiply this number by four to get total beats per minute (bpm). This is your resting heart rate.

Training Zone – Your Burn Fat Exercise Zone

In order to calculate your training zone, you start by calculating your maximum pulse. Using 220 subtract your age. This yields your maximum heart rate that you should not exceed when exercising. However it is important to stay within the zone percentages given above in order to burn fat optimally. For example if you are 30 years old and are just starting out, you should subtract 30 from 220. This gives you 190 bpm. The number your heart rate then needs to stay between while exercising would be 104.5 and 123.5 bpm (or 55% and 65%). If you are athletic and in good shape, your heart rate zone should stay between 104.5 and around 162 bpm (55% and 85%).

Target Heart Rate Exercise

Knowing what these figures are and understanding what to do with them are two different things though. If your heart rate drops lower than your zone your workout will be ineffective. Yet if it exceeds your zone you are overworking and possibly putting your health at risk at least in the beginning stages of exercising. If you want to maximize your workout and protect your health it is imperative that you stay within your zone rates.

If you are operating out of your target zone your breathing will be a give away. You should be comfortable while exercising. Your breathing will become even and not labored. You should not go out of breath, if you do you are exercising too hard and need to slow down. This means that you should be able to talk without discomfort while you exercise.

How do you keep track?

Apart from monitoring the comfort level of your breathing there are more accurate scientific ways to keep track of your zone rate. Most cardiovascular gym equipment such as stationary bikes, treadmills, rowing and elliptical machines provide heart rate sensors you can place on your palm when exercising or a belt you can place around your chest. Gym professionals are also a source of valuable information and before commencing on a regime ask them to calculate your resting heart rate, maximum heart rates and zone rate.

If you are taking your exercise out of the gym and you want total peace of mind then you may want to invest in your own personal heart rate monitor. This usually comes with a watch that you can wear on your wrist. Many allow you to set your heart rate training zone and will beep if your exceed your maximum, so you can train in your zone.
